Ep 8: A Conversation with Sean Lahman
Sean Lahman, founder of the notorious ‘Lahman Database’ upon which so many young statisticians have started their baseball careers, joins host Lance Brozdowski to talk all things stats, big data, and baseball.
The conversation within spans numerous topics, split into two sections.
First is a background on Sean’s journalism career and the founding of the Lahman database itself. Following that is a dig into some recent stats specific topics, including the recent switch from Pitch F/X to Trackman and its impact on Pitcher velocity readings.
From the ~32 minute mark onward starts a general baseball discussion, spanning matters such as the pace of play, viewership in the game, baseball’s regional tendency, and the problem with broadcasters in today’s game.
Closing out the conversation, Sean recaps his weekend trip to Cooperstown, and deftly addresses the topics brought up in my first ever podcast with the unforgettable Murray Chass.
Share, review, subscribe, and promote a fantastic conversation with a great individual and baseball mind!
